Feeding and Wrapping the Bees
Fall Feeding the Bees
After the harvest of the honey, we feed the bees sugar water. With no crops still standing, or many flowers blooming this time of year, the sugar water helps support the bees through the winter.
Sugar water is delivered by tanker truck.
Wrapping the Hives
All our bee hives are wintered outside. When the supers are off and we have finished feeding the hives, the hives are gathered in groups of 4 and wrapped in insulated black tarps. The bees pack themselves in a tight cluster inside the hive to keep warm all winter. Should there be a nice warm day during the winter, the entrances are still open allowing the bees to come and go as they please.
